A thud

Page history last edited by Anonymous 1 yr ago

Luke hears a thud from somewhere behind him, and even though he’s not walking through puddles anymore, he might as well be, cause his boots are soaked through and through, miniature seas of their own sloshing from side to side, heel to toe, Luke’s brisk stride creating a tide. Who knows, by the time he gets to the offices, single cell organisms might have developed, and before too long, the apes would be descending from the trees.

Luke worries about his brain sometimes. He thinks it might have taken a bad fall in its childhood.

He can see the offices looming ahead, great white whales, walls, whichever, in the blur of water and light falling from the sky.

He’s definitely late, but somehow he thinks Lawrence will probably be angrier about the carpet damage from his ecosystems cleverly disguised as shoes.

They’re all kind of weird, Luke decides, because he thinks he might see someone swinging from a rope to get to an office across the courtyard. And maybe he just yelled 'cowabunga' as he swung back into the other office, stapler held protectively to his chest.

Luke looks up, and is that a power line the rope is secured to?

He’s buzzed in the front door by a receptionist eyeing him warily from behind his desk, and squelches over to the elevators. There is no way he is walking up six flights of stairs, it might upset the delicate balance in his boots, after all.
